Anne McCaffrey was natural around Cambridge, Massachusetts to George Herbert McCaffrey and Anne Dorothy McElroy. She received her B.The. within Slavonic Languages & Literature at Radcliffe College in 1947. She married around 1950 & has trio youngsters: Alec Anthony, natural around 1952, Todd, natural around 1956, & Georgeanne, born inside 1959. She was divorced within 1970, when which she emigrated to Ireland.

Within 1968 McCaffrey's short story "Weyr Search", a initial story in the Dragonriders of Pern series, won a Hugo Award for Best Novella. It was the foremost instance the woman got won a Hugo for fiction.

At a 2005 Nebula Award ceremonies, Ms McCaffrey will be known as a 22nd Grand Master by the Science Fiction Writers of America organization.
